The Residence Maldives Falhumaafushi – Luxury Holiday in the South of the Maldives

Secluded Beauty in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll

Located in the far south, just 20 kilometres north of the equator, and on the edge of one of the deepest atolls in the Maldives on a pristine island, you will find the resort, The Residence Maldives Falhumaafushi. Designed in harmony with its natural surroundings, the resort combines traditional Maldivian architecture with contemporary elegance and modern comfort. It offers stylish beach and water villas, excellent restaurants, a cool beach bar and an infinity pool with ocean views.

A world away from the everyday.

Together with its sister resort, The Residence Maldives Dhigurah, which can be reached via a 1km bridge, there are countless opportunities to enjoy, relax and explore the stunning coral reef by snorkelling and diving.

The Residence Falhumaafushi is part of the renowned The Residence Hotels by Cenizaro and Leading Hotels of the World Group, and as such one of the best luxury hotels in the Maldives. It is also very popular with honeymooners. This can hugely be contributed to the excellent service, warm-hearted staff and first-class water villas.

Deep blue Infinity Pool

The atmosphere at the infinity pool is extremely relaxed and cosy.

The Beach Bar

The cool Beach Bar was one of our favourite places on this island. With marvelous cocktails, light snacks and tapas, it was a great place to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings, the wonderful ocean view and the delicious food made with the freshest ingredients.

Villas with Sea View

The 94 thatched roof villas of The Residence Maldives are located directly on the beach or stand on stilts above the water. Some have their own pool, and they all impress with their simple, elegant ambience, fabulous 360 degree panoramic views, Maldivian architecture and plenty of space and comfort.

Water Villas

The light-flooded bathrooms with free-standing bathtubs and mesmerizing views of the ocean sets these villas apart from the others.

Beach Villas

Each Beach Villa is located directly on the seashore and has direct access to the beach.

Restaurants & Bars

THE FALHUMAA

The Falhumaa fine dining restaurant is spectacularly situated at the end of a 230m jetty above the reef. It offers magnificent sea views and fresh seafood and grilled meats for dinner, complemented by fine wines from around the world. In the afternoon, you can indulge in afternoon tea here.

If you are lucky, you may spot sharks swimming by while you dine.

The exceptionally chic and light-filled bar provides a relaxed setting for after-dinner aperitifs and liqueurs.

We had the privilege to watch Mauritian-born chef, Ashish Sharma Domee, one of the world’s top 100 master chefs, in action. This is the first time a chef from the Maldives has been include in the prestigious World Master Chefs Society.

Ashish is an easy-going and likeable guy who creates extraordinary culinary experiences with his team and creates a unique atmosphere in the restaurant. Every evening he personally greets the guests and asks for their feedback.

Ashish’s special recommendation is the legendary Maldivian Lobster.

Every dish he creates is a culinary delight!

It is especially romantic to dine here in the evening, in the middle of the ocean with the soft lighting of the jetty reflecting on the water.

On the evening of our vow renewal on Castaway Island, we enjoyed a romantic dinner celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary.

The excellent service and the exquisite food including a surprise wedding anniversary cake were excellent. What a great evening!

The Falhumaa Menu

THE DINING ROOM

The main restaurant overlooks the lagoon and serves buffet breakfasts, light lunches, and international, Asian and Indian dishes with a modern twist in the evening.

Lunch

Dinner

Library Bar

This elegant bar above the lobby is a great place to spend time when the weather is a little less pleasant. With a panoramic view of the ocean, you can relax with a good book or a game of billiards or chess while enjoying cocktails and light snacks.

The Spa by Clarins

The absolute highlight is the hotel’s own, The Spa by Clarins. It is the first and only spa in the Maldives to exclusively use products from the French beauty company Clarins. A range of treatments have been created exclusively for the resort. The spa consists of six pavilions that stand on stilts in the middle of the lagoon and offer breathtaking views of the turquoise waters and the colourful world of the coral reef.

In addition to a platform for yoga, fitness equipment is of course, also available.

Water sports

The numerous leisure activities include various water sports, such as windsurfing and catamaran sailing, a Kids Club and excursions to nearby islands. Snorkelling and diving are particularly good around the island’s reef. And the hotel’s own PADI 5-star diving centre also offers the opportunity to explore the rich underwater world around Falhumaafushi. However, when we visited in October, it was often very windy, so we did not have the opportunity to go snorkelling.

We were in the Maldives during the rainy season. It can sometimes look like this, but fortunately, the heavy tropical showers often do not last long before it is wonderfully sunny again.

{Now and Forever} Honeymoon & Wedding

On the secluded Castaway Island, between the two resorts Dhigurah and Falhumaafushi, you can get married with the magical sunset as the backdrop, the rhythm of the waves and the joyful beat of the Bodhu Beru drums. Everything from the ceremony to the food, décor, photography and entertainment is organised by the resort.

Sunset Dolphin Cruise im The Residence Maldives, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Malediven

Dhoni and dolphins

Moments Enriched by Cenizaro: To make every moment truly unforgettable!

Besides line fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling safaris, sunset boat trips are a very special way to discover and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Gaafu Alifu Atoll is one of the largest and deepest atolls in the world and home to spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. A Maldivian sunset cruise on a traditional dhoni boat is a wonderful and romantic experience in itself – but when you encounter dolphins on this cruise, it is unforgettable! Do not miss that! Of course, some luck is needed – because they are wild and free-living animals.

The dolphins are very playful and love to swim along at the bow of the ship. So you have the unique opportunity to observe these animals in the wild.

We went out twice, because the first time we were unfortunately not lucky. But then to really discover the dolphins on the second boat trip and see them swimming alongside the boat was really a very special experience for us. The excitement that these animals evoke is truly unique!

The whole crew puts their heart and soul into it and tries to make this special experience possible for the guests.

Price: Dolphin cruise at sunset: US$65++ per person incl. a glass of sparkling wine (duration: 90 minutes).

The Residence Maldives Dhigurah, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Maldives – Luxury, Relaxation & Dolphins

Stylish Seclusion under 2,500 Coconut Trees

The Maldives promise relaxation under palm trees, pristine sandy beaches, a wonderful tropical climate, endless ocean views and, with a bit of luck, dolphin sightings. That was the case at The Residence Dhigurah, situated in the very south of the Maldives.

The elegant all-inclusive resort on a 2 km long lush and pristine island with more than 2,500 coconut palms is connected with a wooden bridge to its sister resort on Falhumaafushi island. It opened in June 2019 and together the two islands comprise one of the largest resorts in the Maldives. The villas have been built in complete harmony with the natural surroundings.

Located 242 miles south of the capital Malè and just 40 miles north of the equator, in the sparsely developed Gaafu Alifu Atoll, The Residence at Dhigurah is so secluded that it cannot even be reached by seaplane. Instead, there is a 50-minute domestic flight from Malè to Kooddoo airport. A short speedboat transfer follows, and then you are greeted by typical Maldivian drum sounds and friendly staff.

Two hotels on two islands – but one resort
No matter whether you stay at The Residence Maldives Dhigurah or The Residence Maldives Falhumaafushi, you have access to the pools, restaurants and bars on both islands. So, you can shuttle back and forth between the two islands as you please across the unique 1km wooden bridge  – the longest private bridge in the Maldives. The best way to do so, is by bicycle, each villa has its own, or by golf cart shuttle.

Interview with Resident Manager Saji Rappai

Infinity Pool

In and around the 42-metre pool you can relax and enjoy the uninterrupted views of the ocean that stretch as far as the horizon.

Bicycles are a great way to explore the islands and enjoy the natural beauty of the lush wilderness.

Villas with Pool and Ocean Views

The 173 villas all offer breathtaking views of the turquoise ocean and dreamy sunrises and/or sunsets. You can choose between beach villas with their own beach area, lagoon villas directly on the coast or water villas built on stilts.

Sunset Water Pool Villa

The spacious villas combine traditional Maldivian architecture with modern comfort and contemporary design.

A special highlight is the In-Villa Floating Breakfast.

Sunset Deluxe Beach Pool Villa

Amidst unspoilt nature, the beach villas offer plenty of peace and privacy.

Beach Pool Villa

The 2-bedroom Water Villa with its own private pool

Dolphins & the Ocean

The Gaafu Alifu Atoll is one of the largest and deepest in the world, and home to spinner and bottlenose dolphins. A trip on a traditional dhoni boat to watch the Maldivian sunset is not to be missed. With a bit of luck, you will encounter playful dolphins – an absolute highlight! (Dolphin cruise at sunset USD 65++ per person).

The House Reef can be easily reached from the beach after about 25 metres. But even from the boardwalks, you can see hawksbill turtles, blacktip sharks, eagle rays and countless colourful fish.

For divers and snorkellers, there is of course much more to discover in the underwater world around Dhigurah and Falhumaafushi. At the 5-star PADI Dive Centre, advanced divers and beginners can take part in guided snorkelling and diving excursions.

Non-motorised water sports equipment, such as canoes, can be used free of charge for one hour per day.

Restaurants & Bars

Earth Table

In the resort’s vegetable garden, called the “Earth Basket”, some of the ingredients for the tasty dishes are grown in-house. On an Earth Basket tour, you can discover local fruits and vegetables, and during an Earth Table cooking class, you can pick your own ingredients with the chef. Then you learn how to prepare a nutritious meal and can enjoy it at the Earth Table. We cooked delicious Maldivian fish curry together with sous chef Walter Hill.

(Earth Basket USD 100++ per person including the three-course menu)

The Beach Club & Café del Sol

At the Beach Club with Beach Bar and Café del Sol you can enjoy lunch at the pool, cocktails on the sun loungers and watch wonderful sunsets. Café del Sol serves delicious burgers, pizzas, pasta for lunch and Mediterranean flavoured tapas in the evening.

You can end the evening on a high note with cool tracks from the in-house DJ.

Dining Room

The open-plan Dining Room serves delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets with fresh ingredients.

At breakfast, you can enjoy fresh fruit, healthy cereals, pastries and a variety of Asian dishes and Indian Ocean specialities, always with a view of the Indian Ocean. A truly wonderful way to start the day.

Long Island  & Li Bai

Long Island serves exquisite Italian cuisine for lunch and dinner with fresh ingredients accompanied by an ocean breeze.

At Li Bai, authentic Cantonese cuisine dishes such as Dim Sum, fresh seafood and succulent meats are given a modern interpretation.

Private Dining

There are many wonderful opportunities on the islands to enjoy a romantic dinner for two under the stars or even a family picnic on the beach. (Private Dining “Vibes”)

Spa by Clarins

The Spa by Clarins, available only at The Residence Maldives resorts, is spread over 10 pavilions above the water, each available for single and couple treatments. There is also a fitness centre, yoga pavilion, beauty and nail salon.

A range of Ayurvedic and holistic treatments are available.

Aqua Yoga with Float

In addition to sunset or sunrise and sunset yoga, aqua yoga is also offered. Definitely a refreshing way to do yoga.

“Earth Table” Cooking Class at The Residence Maldives at Dhigurah by Cenizaro – Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Maldives

A culinary voyage of discovery with Sous Chef Walter Hill (Maldivian Salad, Fish Curry & Mango with Coconut)

We love cooking classes! It’s always really interesting to be part of cooking events with experienced cooks all over the world. After all, who wouldn’t want to recreate the delicious food from their holiday at home?! Of course, it always tastes a bit better locally with the local ingredients, but you can try it and get a piece of your holiday back home.

From the garden bed to the fork

Since The Residence Maldives does not want to import all the ingredients for the delicious dishes, they are growing them in the hotel’s own garden to have them as fresh as possible. With the initiative “Earth Basket”, the resort wants to use all the natural resources. By strengthening the local cultivation they make an important contribution to environmentally friendly tourism.

With the guided Earth Basket tours and Earth Table cooking classes, The Residence Maldives wants to sensitise guests to a healthy and sustainable way of eating.

The garden is home to numerous tropical fruits such as bananas and papayas; many vegetables; healing herbs; spices such as turmeric, chilli and the intensely vanilla-tasting leaves of the Pandan palm.

Sous chef Walter Hill guided us through the garden and freshly harvested the ingredients for our three-course menu.

Besides a small chicken farm and a greenhouse, there is also a compost station. The humus obtained is used for fertilisation, so that pesticides can be dispensed by that.

Cenizaro Cares

The Earth Basket initiative is part of the Cenizaro Cares programme and supports each resort in transforming an area of the hotel’s green space into a year-round kitchen garden. Food waste is composted and then used for fertilisation, eliminating the need to apply chemicals. The Earth Basket initiative promotes local biodiversity and raises awareness of sustainability among staff, guests and the local community.

Earth-Table cooking class incl. 3-course menu (Earth Table Menu): 100 $ per person
Earth Table Walk: $15 per person
